Job Title: UNIX Support Analyst

Career development path: Assistant Manager or Specialising

Reporting to: UNIX Support Team Leader

Hours of Work: 37.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7.5 hour shift pattern between 7.30am to 6.00pm. For example, 7.30am to 4.00pm, etc.

Key technologies: Linux, VMware and Solaris

SUMMARY

At Hargreaves Lansdown, our Linux and Solaris based systems are key to both internal and client facing systems. Due to increasing demands, we are looking for a Unix Support Analyst to deal with a wide and varied selection of requests supporting the wider business.

The role is suited to an individual who is keen to learn and develop, and enjoys owning a problem and seeing it through to resolution.An average day within the Unix Support Team is both fast paced and diverse where you will be working closely with a variety of internal teams and third party suppliers to investigate, diagnose and resolve a wide range of requests, and will offer the successful candidate opportunity to expand their existing knowledge of a multitude of technologies based primarily (but not exclusively) on the Linux platform.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Working through the Unix 2nd line ticket queue, ensuring tickets are dealt with in a consistent and professional manner.
  • Monitor and manage the escalations queue to ensure service requests and incidents across the UNIX estate are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Work with other teams in the department to identify trends and root causes of faults.
  • Help implement changes in line with ITIL best practice
  • Help improve our process documentation for common tickets.
  • Actively engage in a culture of continuous improvement, implementing service efficiencies where possible.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • Working in a 1st or 2nd line support role and/or Experience of working in a customer-facing role
  • Understanding of SLAs/OLAs

Essential knowledge

  • Use of command line tools
  • Good understanding of Linux/UNIX

Useful to have, but not essential

  • RedHat or Centos 6/7 experience
  • Understanding of virtualisation technologies e.g. VMware
  • Configuration management systems (e.g. puppet/chef)
  • Source control software (e.g. Subversion, Git)
  • System monitoring (e.g. Opsview / Nagios)
  • RHCSA
  • ITIL Foundation
