The Role 

In order to help us to continue to move forward and meet the needs of an ever-changing technical landscape, we are looking for a senior project manager to join our team in Bristol (UK), supporting us in the delivery of the best possible game developer experience. 

As a Senior Project Manager in the CPU Toolchain team, you will be working at the heart of our software development life cycle, creating plans, monitoring progress, and co-ordinating test and releases.  

The PlayStation® CPU Toolchain is a global engineering effort, with multiple teams within Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) and the open-source LLVM project, developing features and improving the performance and robustness of the CPU compiler, linker and associated LLVM tools. The CPU Toolchain is released several times per year to PlayStation® game developers and internal teams.  

Your efforts will contribute towards improvements in every game released for PlayStation and ultimately to the continued success of Sony Interactive Entertainment. 

This position is suitable for Senior Project Managers with at least eight years of experience in a software engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create project plans for software projects, considering agreed objectives, milestones, quality, and cost.
  • Monitor and adjust plans to ensure that we achieve our milestones.
  • Coordinate the development of software components with internal and external teams.
  • Coordinate software test and release activities.
  • Report progress to stakeholders.
  • Project manage internal non-production projects to ensure that we achieve the optimal balance between those projects which improve our own quality-of-life, and our external commitments.
  • Work with all teams to continually improve our software development process.
  • Contribute to improving project management and software development practices.

Qualifications and Experience  

  • At least eight years as a Project Manager
  • You’ll need to be passionate about project management, and you’ll need the following skills:

Essential Skills

  • A track record of delivering projects under budget and on schedule.
  • Experience of project managing multiple complex software development projects in parallel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (in English).
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of using Agile methods in software development, e.g. Scrum, Kanban

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of Jira, Confluence.
  • Experience of working with projects that use or (ideally) contribute to open source
  • Experience of working with teams and stakeholders in multiple global locations
  • Post graduate project management qualifications (APM, Scrum certification etc.)
    • Experience of improving project management and development processes used by development teams
  • Line Management of staff
  • Experience of Japanese and US culture/language
