The OVO Group’s purpose is to drive progress towards net zero carbon living. To reach Plan Zero, we need everyone to come together – not just as customers buying energy, but as members with a common goal. As part of this ambitious plan, our goal is to become the ‘Best Employer in the UK’ by 2030. If you think you could be the talent we’re looking for, then come and join the adventure!
We launched in 2009 with a mission to change energy for the better. Since then, we’ve welcomed over a million members, planted a million trees, and set our sights on helping save the planet.
As a Group, we’re working to become a net zero carbon business by 2030, while helping our OVO Energy members halve their carbon footprints at the same time.
Green energy and technology are great tools to fight the climate crisis with. But it’s people power that will rewrite history.
So we’re building a zero carbon team inside and out. Of people who share our values, feel inspired by our mission, and want to make change happen. When you work for OVO, it’s not just a job. It’s the work of a lifetime. And we want the sharpest minds to help.
Up for the challenge?
Following OVO’s acquisition of the SSE Retail Energy company earlier this year, the two companies are working hard to integrate their operations. Essential to this is the integration and rationalisation of their technical systems and data processing.
The Data Architect will work closely with OVO and SSE Product, Tech, Data and Analytics, and the Integration workstream leads. They will be tasked with identifying the right SSE datasources, and mapping these into OVO’s data model, the Data Platform and downstream operational and analytical layers.
This role will be fundamental to design the data pipelines that will underpin the successful integration of the two organisations, in line with OVO’s Data Strategy.
Mapping out source and target systems landscapes – operational billing, marketing, digital platforms, as well as data, reporting and analytics layers.
Building out logical and physical data models, and the translation of these across the different companies and systems.
We’re not looking for reams of documentation that is likely to go stale quickly, rather the key information at the right level of detail in the right hands, to make the right strategic choices throughout the integration process.
Design and drive strategies for data stewardship and data championing programs, metadata management, master data management, and other lifecycle management programs, and coordinate with security and privacy programs for integrated approaches.
Identify gaps in data governance and information management practices and orchestrate the elimination of those gaps, leading to higher data management maturity.
Working with other Data Architects and SMEs to evolve the OVO Data Model, to define company wide ontology, naming and definition of the types, properties, and relationships of the data to ensure it encompasses the relevant features and definitions to support the SSE business model alongside OVO’s.
Working with the integration team and wider business to understand the key value drivers and specific use cases for data required during the integration.
Working closely with Product and Project Managers, Software and Data Engineers, Data Analysts and Scientists, to design and build the short, mid and long term data pipelines required to support the immediate integrations and ongoing long term business and technical strategies.
Contribute to design discussions and challenge technology assumptions where required
Proven Data Architect experience in a data and technology driven organisation (e.g. online platforms, finance, social media, advertising), where data is an essential part of the company’s business and strategy.
Excellent data modelling skills, to support both operational, and reporting and analytics use cases.
A solid background in the fields of data integrity, data governance, data processing, data warehousing and business intelligence.
Team player, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a roll-up the sleeves attitude.
Detail oriented, creative problem solver with excellent people management and stakeholder engagement skills.
Knowledge and experience of event-driven, real-time and cloud-first architectures.
Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a drive to want to share knowledge with others, both technical and non-technical.
Experience with any of RDBMSs such as DB2 and SQL Server, GCP and BigQuery, Kafka, Spark, Google Pub/Sub, Airflow or Google Cloud Composer would be a bonus.
An annual discretionary bonus
4% of your salary to spend on flexible lifestyle benefits
5% matched employer contribution to your pension
25 days holiday + 1 for your birthday
And many more…
