Our mission is to ‘help people save and invest with confidence’. We are looking for great people to join us, so please come and invest in YOUR future at HL.
Analyst / Coordinator
Reporting to the Head of Developer Experience
Developer Experience, or DX, is a brand new concept for HL. We have well over 200 fantastic software engineers focussed on delivering great technology to our clients and colleagues. We are now building a DX team tasked with improving the performance of those software engineering teams, through driving continuous improvement in how we all work together.
We are looking for two analyst/coordinators to join this team at the start of our journey. This is an opportunity to help shape our direction as we explore what does and doesn’t drive positive improvements in our engineering teams. Previous experience of working in technology is not necessary, we are looking for people with a curiosity in what makes teams perform well and the attitude and aptitude to put that into practice, over specific skills or experience.
We are keen to bring in individuals who can positively contribute to the diversity of thought within our team, so would welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds. This role could also be fulfilled part time, or partially or fully remotely, to meet individual circumstances.
Our analysts/coordinators will form the backbone of our new DX function. You will be working with the Head of DX, and the rest of our Chief Technology Officer’s (CTO) leadership team, to identify, roll out and monitor performance improvements to HLs software engineering teams.
Why should I be interested in this role?
DX is a new thing for HL, and something that is relatively new to the technology industry. Unsurprisingly, when you get large teams working together, the problems they face are as much about people, culture, and engagement as they are about laptops, choices of technology or code. With our DX team we hope to tackle all kinds of human and technical problems that can hold us back. We strongly believe that building a diverse and inclusive culture, which empowers our engineers, will lead to long term performance gains.
So if you enjoy herding cats, get satisfaction from making lots of people’s lives 1% better and are keen to see how data can solve real world team problems, this role could be perfect for you.
You will gain experience in areas such as:
What does a typical day look like?
You will be working across the multiple engineering teams of HL, who are normally based in our Bristol head office, Warsaw (Poland) office, but are currently all working from home. Regular communication with those teams, in particular listening to find out their problems – and what lies behind them – will be a constant in this role.
Our analyst/coordinators are so named because they have two main purposes:
To collect & analyse data on the overall operation of the engineering teams, using this to identify and drive quantifiable improvements in performance To coordinate performance improvement initiatives across the engineering teams, in particular those that roll out and embed new ways of working to enable our technology strategy
So in addition to regular communication, a typical day might involve some thinking, some data collection, some analysis in a spreadsheet, some reporting of progress, some communicating of our vision, some influencing, some planning, and plenty of listening.

We know that sometimes the ‘perfect candidate’ doesn’t exist, and that people can be put off applying for a job if they don’t tick every box. If you’re excited about working for us, and have most of the skills or experience we’re looking for, please go ahead and apply. You could be just what we need!
