Alongside this year’s Silicon Gorge: Spring Edition we’re going to be publishing profiles of a few of the companies that have made it through to the heats.  First up is Data Duoploy who are looking to revolutionise visitor experiences, by offering personalised incentives to discover and navigate venues.

Here to answer our questions is Data Duopoly co-founder Tanuvi Ethunandan.

What does your company do?

Data Duopoly solves the issue of congestion and frustrations experienced by visitors, by facilitating personalised incentives to discover and navigate venues.

What problem are you trying to solve?

Visitors hate queues, venues lose money as a result. Currently, there is no platform which creates win-win situations for visitors and venues, until Data Duopoly was formed.

What makes your solution unique?

We believe in democratising the information sharing process. We are unique in providing win-win situations to both venues and visitors, via our free to download mobile app for visitors, and insightful data analytics dashboard for the venue.

What are you most proud of so far?

We are proud of completing a pilot with the Eden Project last year, and improving the visitor experience for some of the 1 million visitors that visit every year! We had a 33% action rate from our surveyed users for our targeted offers, which was fantastic in proving our concept to shift visitor flow on-site using personalised in-app notifications.

 We have been recognised for our trailblazing technology, winning the Pitch to the Primes competition at the UK Space Conference presented by Tim Peake (which was out of this world! – please excuse the pun). We reached the finals of The Pitch, the UK’s largest start-up competition, backed by Microsoft and Crowdcube. Our Co-Founder, Tanuvi is a finalist for the playmaker of the year award, showcasing our innovation in this industry (it is humbling to be recognised by an industry leader in this way!). It certainly has been a busy year for us!

How much are you raising and what do you want to use investment for?

Our initial target seed round was for £250k, to be used to fund our low-cost pilot offering to gain traction in the market and grow our in-house team. However, following the uncertainties in the industry due to COVID-19, we are keen to complete a ‘quicker’ round to enable us to be a play a key part of the ‘recovery phase’ within the visitor attraction industry. Our Xplor-IT solution can help visitor attractions and venues understand where their visitors are, and therefore better deploy staff on-site.

What tools/people/services/organisations helped you most?

First and foremost the fabulous team at Data Duopoly, who complement each other in every way! We have been fortunate to have the support of the Eden Project at the start of our journey, along with the UK Space Agency and the Cornwall Space Sector who have helped us realise the value in downstream satellite data. In addition, we were formed as part of the EU-funded Launchpad incubator, and Ben Sewell has been instrumental in helping us develop our technical strategy! A big thank you to all!
